One of the liquors we particularly enjoy in the summer is gin. We can't quite explain it, but it just conjures in our minds the image of sunny afternoons and lazy evenings. We racked our brains for interesting drinks with gin and summery ingredients and were shocked to find we were yet to even cover any in the Buck family. Ginger ale and lemons already make this the perfect cocktail for a sunny day, so here is our recipe for the Gin Buck.
You will need:
Gin (1 oz)
Freshly squeezed lemon juice (1/2 oz)
Ginger ale
Also known as the London Buck cocktail (and even the Ginger Rogers), this drink should be served straight up (i.e without ice) in a tall Collins glass with a straw. Pour the gin into a glass and add the lemon. Resist the temptation to stir, and top off with as much ginger ale as you like. Simple and straightforward to make, come back soon to find out how to make some more summer cocktails, and even some more in the Buck family!

Our last recipe was the Caio Baby, a summer drink using strawberries and a pre-prepared mix based on the famous Tom Collins cocktail. Here at the Cocktail Weblog we prefer to do things right and make our drinks authentically, so here is the recipe you can use to make the Tom Collins. For inclusion in the Caio Baby, then, just make this cocktail and pour an ounce of it into the mix.
What you need:
Gin (1 oz)
Lemon Juice (1/2 oz)
Sugar syrup (drizzle) or sugar (two pinches)
Carbonated water
This drink is a bitter and at times sweet cocktail, depending on the amount of sugar used. This is very much down to who is making it, and they should be aware of the preferences of the one tasting it. On top of the gin add the juice and syrup, followed by as much or as little carbonated water as wanted and serve in a tall "Collins" glass.
Who is this cocktail for?
Those who prefer their drinks to be either bitter or sweet can customise this one for themselves, an element which makes it popular around the world. It should be bore in mind that its taste depends on the use of bubbly water, so if you aren't a fan of this then avoid.

Summer Cocktails

For those of us in the northern hemisphere the summer is upon us. Sunny days and longer evenings give us a chance to enjoy late nights of barbeques and cocktail parties, so now we begin our series concentrating on cocktails which characterise this fine season.
You might expect to see certain drinks in the summer for any amount of reasons. Colour, presentation and the fruit used are all important aspects. The first we look at then is the simple and famous Caio Baby, a smooth and fruity number which can be given extra kick with larger helpings of rum.
What you need:
Dark Rum (1 oz)
Grenadine (1/2 oz)
Strawberries (2 oz)
Collins Mix (1 oz)
If you can't get your hands on any Collins mix, we'll cover later just how to make your own. The vital ingredients are gin, sugar and lemon, so add more of this to make the Caio Baby that little bit more bitter.
How to make the Caio Baby:
Blend the strawberries, adding the rum first followed by the grenadine and Collins mix. Blend all together and serve up in the glass of your choosing. To make the Caio Baby even more summery put some ice through an ice-crusher and serve the smooth mix over the ice in a glass. The colour should be a deep red when served, and feel free to garnish with chopped fruit (strawberries, grapes etc). Keeping in line with the summer strawberry theme, you really should check out the closely related Strawberry Dacquiri.
